![]() It got worse lately, much worse, because of heightened security requirements (a GUID that needs to match between local PC and headless install).and more recently the Crashplan software would auto-update and then shut down. It wasn't easy, since I mostly lack linux skills I needed to use a bootcamp win7 partition on a seldom used iMac to access the headless Synology Crashplan installation.and I needed crash plan on that windows machine so I ha to put things back how I found them each time. Any sort of Synology software update broke everything and I had to relearn how to re-set everything back up. Anyway, while I wasn't 100% happy about using third party software that I couldn't understand/review myself for safety, I went with it and soon (well in weeks) had my NAS backed up okay.īut it was rocky. I don't remember how it all started, but I found some third party Java and Crashplan packages by patters ( ). ![]() It's not officially supported, but Crashplan can be run on a headless Linux based computer (has anybody reading ever done exactly what is on the Crashplan website without using third party stuff like patters' packages?). So, when I got the Synology I decided to give Crashplan a go. ![]() I also use Time Machine (to a time capsule) for backup. I use Crashplan to backup my sundry family PCs, and that's great. I have a Synology DS213, which only has 512MB of unexpandable memory but which is working quite well otherwise. I wasn't sure whether to post this here (Synology users are probably here) or in the Linux Fu area.
